Studio MAPPA has officially announced an anime adaptation of usagi's Jimoto Saiko! (Hometown is the Best!) manga. The series is slated for a worldwide release on Netflix.
The announcement came during MAPPA's 15th Anniversary Lineup Reveal livestream. The project will feature the song "milk." by aiko. The anime's production staff includes Tokio Igarashi as director and Ryō Takata handling scripts, with Rio on character design and Naoki Takada as art director.
The Jimoto Saiko! manga delves into the harsh realities of a hometown rife with violence, drugs, poverty, and discrimination. It follows the struggles of protagonist Chanel and her friend Chihiro as they navigate their dangerous environment, dealing with upperclassmen exhibiting extreme behaviors.
usagi originally serialized the manga on X (formerly Twitter). Saizusha has published the compiled volumes, with the eighth volume released in August 2025, following the first volume's release in August 2022.
