Beat & Motion, the music manga by Naoki Fujita, is officially receiving an anime adaptation produced by Studio MAPPA. The announcement came during MAPPA's 15th Anniversary Event on Friday, which also revealed the main cast, staff, a teaser visual, and a promotional video. The series is slated for a worldwide exclusive release on Netflix in 2027.
Shuuichirou Umeda, known for his role in Make Heroine ga Oosugiru!, will voice Tatsuhiko Hirayama, while Aya Gomazuru of Hanyou no Yashahime: Sengoku Otogizoushi fame will portray Nico Kashiwagi. The production team includes Director Yuki Komada (Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Kyoto Douran), Series Composition and Scriptwriter Misaki Morie, and Character Designer Kazunori Aoki.
Beat & Motion serialized on Shueisha's Shounen Jump+ platform from February 2023 to January 2025. The manga originated from the "Million Tag" contest, a web competition hosted by Shounen Jump+ in 2021, where Beat & Motion secured the grand prize. Viz Media and Manga Plus handled the English licensing for the series.
The story follows Tatsuhiko Hirayama, who initially abandoned his dream of animation due to bullying but rediscovers his passion after a chance encounter. His viral animation work catches the attention of his favorite singer, Nico Kashiwagi, leading to a collaboration that uncovers unexpected connections between them.
