A television anime adaptation of Kana Yoshimura's Murciélago manga is officially in the works, with a 2027 premiere planned. The announcement came from NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan during their panel at Anime Expo 2026, which also revealed key staff members and shared a teaser visual and promotional video.
Leading the production are Chief Director and Series Composition by Takashi Naoya, known for directing Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari, and Director Matsuo Asami, who served as assistant director on Übel Blatt. Kiyoshi Tateishi of Kinsou no Vermeil fame is handling character design, with music by Masanori Akita and Yuuichi Tsuchiya. The anime will be produced by studios Satelight and Staple Entertainment.
The Murciélago manga, a girl's love action series, began serialization in Square Enix's Young Gangan in August 2013. The story follows Kuroko Koumori, a state-appointed executioner who avoids death row despite having killed 715 people. Tasked with hunting down other killers, she is partnered with the carefree Hinako Tozakura, forming an unlikely duo.
Yen Press holds the English license for the manga, with the 26th volume having been released in February and the 27th slated for September 22. The 28th Japanese volume was released in January, and the 29th is due out July 24.
