Fuji TV has officially announced a live-action television adaptation of Oreco Tachibana’s historical romance manga Hotaru no Yomeiri (Firefly Wedding). The project, which was unveiled alongside an announcement promotional video, is currently slated for a 2027 broadcast window.

The series, which began its run on the MangaONE platform in early 2023, is approaching its conclusion. While the 12th volume hit shelves in June, the 13th and final volume is scheduled to arrive on October 19. The narrative centers on Satoko, a noblewoman with a secret heart condition who attempts to save her own life by proposing a marriage of convenience to Shinpei Gotou, the legendary assassin sent to kill her.

Beyond the upcoming live-action project, the franchise has seen significant expansion this year. Viz Media currently manages the English-language print release of the manga, with the eighth volume arriving in mid-October. Meanwhile, the property's reach continues to grow as the anime adaptation, produced by David Production, began its broadcast run on October 9 with simulcast support on Crunchyroll.

Why it matters: The transition to a live-action format in 2027 suggests a long-term strategy for the franchise, though it remains to be seen how the production will adapt the manga's conclusion. With the source material wrapping up this month, the creative team has a complete narrative arc to work with as they begin development.
