The dark fantasy world of Asari Endō's Magical Girl Raising Project is making the jump from the page to the stage. Odd Entertainment has announced a live-action adaptation scheduled to run from January 8 to January 13 at the Owlspot Theatre in Tokyo. Saki Nagata is attached to the project to handle both writing and directing duties.
The production has revealed a sprawling cast list to portray the series' ensemble of magical girls, including Rino Mochizuki as the protagonist Snow White, Risa Tsumugi as Ripple, and Aya Emori as Top Speed. Kurumi Mamiya is also confirmed to provide the voice for the series' mascot character, Fav. The announcement arrives as the franchise prepares for the upcoming television anime adaptation of the Restart arc, which is set to premiere on October 5.
While the original 2016 anime adaptation, produced by Lerche, holds a 66/100 average on AniList and a 68/100 rating on Kitsu, the franchise has continued to expand through its light novel source material. Since its 2012 debut, the series has grown to 18 volumes, with Yen Press handling the English-language release. The transition to a stage play highlights the enduring popularity of the series' high-stakes survival premise, which pits magical girls against one another in a brutal competition for survival.
With the Restart anime shifting production to studio Synergy SP, the stage play serves as a secondary pillar for the franchise's current momentum. It remains to be seen if the stage production will focus on the original narrative or incorporate elements from the broader Restart arc.
