Aniplex has unveiled the full trailer for Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising, the official sequel to the 2013 film Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion. The trailer showcases the theme song "Kanata" by Yuki Kajiura's solo project Fiction Junction.

The film is now slated to open in Japan on August 28. Yukihiro Miyamoto is directing the project, with the original animation studio SHAFT returning. The original voice cast, including Aoi Yūki as Madoka Kaname and Chiwa Saitō as Homura Akemi, will reprise their roles. They will be joined by Shion Wakayama and Tomoyo Kurosawa as new magical girls Shichōka and Selma Therese, respectively.

The production sees the return of key staff from the original series, including original creators Magica Quartet, chief director Akiyuki Simbo, scriptwriter Gen Urobuchi, character designer Ume Aoki, and composer Yuki Kajiura. This continuation of the acclaimed franchise, known for its dark twists on the magical girl genre, has faced several delays, with its most recent postponement from February due to production circumstances.

The Madoka Magica franchise first premiered as a TV anime in 2011, followed by compilation films and the Rebellion movie. Spin-off adaptations, such as the Magia Record anime series, have also expanded the universe. The Walpurgisnacht: Rising film was first teased in 2015 and officially announced in April 2021.
