Aniplex of America and Fathom Events have confirmed that Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising will arrive in North American theaters for a limited engagement from January 16 through January 19. The film serves as the direct sequel to the 2013 feature Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion, continuing the story that has kept fans waiting for over a decade. Audiences will have the choice between subtitled Japanese audio or an English-dubbed presentation when tickets officially go on sale December 11.

To celebrate the upcoming release, Aniplex also unveiled a new key visual illustrated by artist Namie, known for her work on Fate/Grand Order. The production features a reunion of the core creative team, including chief director Akiyuki Simbo, writer Gen Urobuchi, and the animation studio SHAFT. The film, which opened in Japan this past August, introduces new characters voiced by Shion Wakayama and Tomoyo Kurosawa alongside the returning cast.

For those looking to catch up or revisit the series, the original trilogy—Beginnings, Eternal, and Rebellion—is heading to streaming platforms. Crunchyroll will add the films on November 8, followed by a Netflix debut on January 2. Additionally, fans can look forward to a premium 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of the original three films, featuring new cover art by character designer Junichirō Taniguchi, arriving on October 15.

With a Kitsu rating of 90/100, the franchise remains a high-water mark for psychological magical girl dramas. Given the long gap between Rebellion and this sequel, the upcoming theatrical run serves as a major milestone for the series' legacy. It remains to be seen how the film's complex narrative, which explores the aftermath of Homura's reality-altering choices, will resonate with long-time viewers during this limited theatrical window.
