Madhouse has officially revealed the title, a teaser trailer, and a February 11, 2027 release date for its new original theatrical anime project, now titled ghost – end of night. The film's website launched Wednesday, coinciding with the debut of a teaser that previews the insert song "Sugar" by alternative rock band hitsujibungaku, who are also handling the movie's theme song.
Directed and scripted by Shingo Natsume, known for his work on ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. and One-Punch Man, ghost – end of night marks his first original anime film directorial effort. Natsume Ono, the creator behind ACCA 13-Territory Inspection Department, is responsible for the original character designs, with Norifumi Kugai adapting them for animation. The film's score is being composed by Ohzora Kimishima.
Bandai Namco Filmworks is distributing the film, which is set in the near future where labor is obsolete. The story follows Neekei, a girl searching for reality amidst a society focused on contentment. Shingo Natsume aims for the film to be a fictional work that resonates with contemporary times and pursues realism.
In addition to the film, a manga adaptation by artist himiko will begin serialization in Kadokawa's Young Ace magazine on August 4. A preview of the manga will be featured in the magazine's August issue, shipping July 4.
