The first installment of the new Made in Abyss anime film trilogy, Made in Abyss: Mezameru Shinpi (Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery), has unveiled its initial teaser video. The film is set to premiere in Japanese theaters on October 23.
The returning voice cast features Mariya Ise as Reg, Miyu Tomita as Riko, Shiori Izawa as Nanachi, and Misaki Kuno as Faputa. Masayuki Kojima is back at the helm as director for Kinema Citrus, with Hideyuki Kurata handling scripts and Kazuchika Kise and Yuka Kuroda returning as character designers. The production also sees Takeshi Takakura as Design Leader, Osamu Masuyama, Teru Sekiguchi, and Asaki Nakamura as Art Directors, and Kevin Penkin composing the music.
As the franchise continues its expansion, the Made in Abyss compilation films Made in Abyss: Journey's Dawn and Made in Abyss: Wandering Twilight will receive a limited two-week revival screening in Japan starting May 22. This comes after the success of the second television season, Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, which aired in 2022 and was based on Akihito Tsukushi's manga. The original Made in Abyss manga has garnered significant acclaim, with the anime adaptation holding an impressive 8.7 rating on MyAnimeList from over 300,000 voters.
The Made in Abyss story follows Riko, an orphan girl living in the town of ÅŒrth, who dreams of becoming a Cave Raider like her mother and exploring the mysteries of the colossal pit known as the Abyss. Her journey takes a turn when she discovers a robot resembling a human boy.
