Konami Cross Media NY has tapped Mad Cave Studios to bring the explosive world of the Contra video game franchise to the comic page. The upcoming project is slated as a 12-issue series, with the inaugural issue scheduled to hit shelves in January 2027. Beyond the single-issue releases, the publisher plans to roll out collected trade paperback volumes and a premium Deluxe Edition.

The licensing agreement grants Mad Cave Studios distribution rights across a broad territory, including the United States, Canada, Latin America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. This expansion into comics marks a new chapter for the brand, which has remained active in the gaming space since its 1987 arcade debut.

While the franchise has seen numerous ports and iterations across platforms ranging from the NES to the Nintendo DS, its most recent outing was the 2024 release Contra: Operation Galuga, developed by WayForward. By leveraging the series' signature run-and-gun gameplay legacy, this new comic series aims to capture the high-octane intensity that defined the classic Konami property for generations of players.
