During their panel at New York Comic Con, Big West announced that Macross Frontier is receiving a new Deluxe Edition Blu-ray release. The set is currently scheduled to ship in the early second quarter of 2027, with pre-orders opening this December through GKIDS in the United States and All the Anime in the United Kingdom. This release follows the company's previously announced plans to bring the Macross Delta series to the Blu-ray format.
In addition to the home video news, Big West clarified the status of the franchise's catalog, confirming that the classic film The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? is officially recognized as part of the worldwide Macross franchise. This clarification comes as the studio continues to solidify its international distribution strategy for the long-running space opera series.
Originally airing in 2008 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the franchise, Macross Frontier remains a cornerstone of the series, blending idol music with high-stakes mecha combat. The story follows the intersecting lives of pilot trainee Alto Saotome and aspiring singers Ranka Lee and Sheryl Nome against the backdrop of the Vajra alien threat. The series has since expanded through multiple films, including The False Songstress and The Wings of Goodbye, as well as the 2021 short Labyrinth of Time.
Why it matters: While the announcement provides a concrete window for the Deluxe Edition, the specific contents of the set—such as potential remastering details or exclusive physical bonuses—remain unconfirmed. With pre-orders opening in December, fans should watch for further updates from GKIDS and All the Anime regarding the final technical specifications.
