Set less than a year after the events of Macross 7, Basara travels to the planet Zola. There, he encounters Elma, a devoted fan, and must once again wield his unique Spiritia-powered music to thwart an army of poachers and Elma's father, Graham, from hunting a pod of migrating space whales.
Ashi Productions handled the animation for this installment, known for blending its signature space opera action with the franchise's trademark rock music themes. While Macross 7 itself scored a respectable 7.5 on MyAnimeList, Dynamite 7 offers a more contained, adventure-focused narrative that dives deeper into the lore of Spiritia and the unique ecosystem of space whales.
