Author Yūna Hirasawa has announced that her ongoing fantasy series, Luca, the Dragon Vet (Ryūi no Luca), is nearing its conclusion. The manga, which follows a young woman striving to become a veterinarian for dragons, will wrap up its narrative with the release of its eighth compiled book volume.

This announcement follows the series' transition into its final arc, which commenced on August 30. The manga originally debuted in Kodansha's Morning two in September 2022, incorporating medical supervision from Hoko Tsuda to ground its fantastical premise. Kodansha recently released the seventh volume in Japan on September 18.

For English-language readers, the series is currently being published by Kodansha USA, which launched its print edition on July 28. The story centers on Luca, who must navigate a world where dragons are essential for travel and warfare, all while overcoming academic hurdles and the weight of her family's reputation.

This title marks another significant project for Hirasawa, whose previous work, My Journey to Her, earned the Best Digital Comic award at the 2025 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards. With the final volume now on the horizon, it remains to be seen how the series will resolve its central medical and adventure-driven conflicts.
