Crystal na Yōsuke, best known for the heartwarming cocktail-themed series Love is Like a Cocktail, is set to debut a brand-new romantic comedy in the upcoming issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Sunday Gene-X. The new series, titled Tokoro de Machi Chūka wa Date ni Irimasu ka? (By the Way, Is the Local Chinese Restaurant a Date Spot?), is scheduled to begin serialization on September 18.
The story shifts focus toward a culinary-driven love triangle. The narrative will follow the intersecting lives of a woman with a passion for binge-eating, a salaryman working in the food industry, and a food-focused live-streamer. This marks a return to the magazine for the author, who previously concluded the Bonnō☆Saiyūki manga earlier this year in January.
Crystal na Yōsuke’s previous work, Osake wa Fūfu ni Natte kara, remains a staple for fans of slice-of-life romance. That series, which explored the domestic life of a couple sharing cocktails, was adapted into a 13-episode anime short series in 2017 and is currently available via Crunchyroll. With this new project, the creator looks to blend food culture with interpersonal drama once again.
