The upcoming live-action adaptation of the Wandance manga has provided a fresh look at its cast, unveiling a teaser trailer and character visual that highlights the pivotal role of Hikari Wanda. Anji Ikehata, known for her roles in Yano-kun no Futsū no Hibi and Lonely Castle in the Mirror, steps into the shoes of the character who serves as the catalyst for the protagonist’s journey into the world of hip-hop dance.

Directed by Naoya Kusaba, the film adapts the popular coming-of-age story by Coffee, which follows Kaboku Kotani, a boy who breaks free from societal expectations after witnessing Wanda’s expressive, uninhibited dance style. The production features a script written by Keiichi Kobayashi, with choreography and dance supervision handled by Charisma Kantarō to ensure the authenticity of the film's central hip-hop sequences.

This live-action project arrives on the heels of the Wandance television anime, which premiered in October 2025 and was distributed internationally via Disney+. With the manga series reaching its 15th volume in Japan, the film aims to capture the same spirit of self-discovery that has drawn comparisons to titles like Blue Period. The film is slated to hit Japanese theaters on November 27, 2026.
