The culinary journey of Wakako-zake is expanding its horizons. BS TV Tokyo has confirmed that the live-action adaptation of Chie Shinkyū’s manga will return for a 10th season this coming January. Rina Takeda is set to reprise her role as the 26-year-old protagonist, who continues her nightly quest to find the perfect pairing of food and drink while dining solo.
This upcoming season marks a milestone for the franchise, as it will feature international filming locations for the first time. The production team traveled to Australia’s Gold Coast to capture the opening two episodes, coordinating with Tourism Australia, Tourism and Events Queensland, Experience Gold Coast, and Qantas to bring the coastal setting to the screen.
Since its debut in 2015, the live-action series has maintained a consistent presence on Japanese television, with the ninth season having aired as recently as October 2025. The franchise also includes a 12-episode anime short series that originally aired in 2015, which remains accessible to international viewers via Crunchyroll.
