Amazon Prime Video has unveiled a new teaser for the next chapter in its live-action adaptation of Kaiji Kawaguchi’s political thriller manga, The Silent Service. Titled The Silent Service: Awaken, New York, the sequel is scheduled for a worldwide release in summer 2027. The teaser confirms that the production remains committed to completing the narrative arc of the original source material.
Key cast members from the previous film and series are confirmed to return, including Takao Ōsawa as the rogue submarine captain Shiro Kaieda, Hiroshi Tamaki as Hiroshi Fukamachi, and Aya Ueto as Ichiya Hiromi. They are joined by returning performers Aoi Nakamura, Yūsuke Santamaria, Kenjirō Tsuda, Yui Natsukawa, Takashi Sasano, and Yōsuke Eguchi.
This project continues a multi-year effort to bring Kawaguchi’s 1988 manga to the screen. The franchise previously saw a 2023 feature film, followed by an eight-episode series on Prime Video in 2024 that expanded on the film's events, and a 2025 sequel film titled The Battle of the Arctic Ocean. While the 1996 and 1997 anime adaptations from Sunrise remain the only animated versions of the story, the current live-action iteration has become a staple of Amazon's international distribution strategy.
With the story now heading toward its climax, the 2027 release window suggests a significant production scale for this final arc. Whether the series will conclude in a single release or be split into multiple parts remains an open question as the production moves toward its New York-focused narrative.
