The upcoming live-action film adaptation of Shohei Manabe’s Sins of Kujo (Kujō no Taizai) has expanded its cast list. A new teaser trailer released today highlights six additional actors joining the production, which is set to hit Japanese theaters on January 8, 2027.
Among the new additions, Kiyohiko Shibukawa joins the ensemble as Takehito Mitarashi, a yakuza figure and sworn brother to the crime boss Kyōgoku. Haru Kuroki will portray Kanako Kujō, the protagonist's ex-wife, while Yui Narumi joins as Rui Ōta, a swindler who seeks legal counsel from the unconventional lawyer Taiza Kujō. Rounding out the new cast are Eita Okuno as the yakuza lieutenant Uji, Mutsuo Yoshioka as the aide Karigane, and Yū Tokui as the former militant Kajiya.
These new performers join returning leads Yuuya Yagira and Hokuto Matsumura, who continue their roles as Taiza Kujō and Shinji Karasuma, respectively. The film maintains continuity with the live-action series, with director Nobuhiro Doi and screenwriter Nonji Nemoto back at the helm. The production continues to explore the moral ambiguity of Kujō, a lawyer who specializes in defending society’s most notorious figures.
This film follows the live-action series that premiered on Netflix earlier this year. The source material, which began serialization in 2020, shares a gritty, legal-thriller DNA with Manabe’s previous hit, Ushijima the Loan Shark, which spawned an extensive franchise of television seasons and films between 2010 and 2022.
