The upcoming live-action adaptation of Amu Meguro's My Sister's Boyfriend (OnΔ-chan no Midori-kun) has expanded its cast, with Taisuke Niihara joining the production. Niihara, known for his work in the live-action At 25:00 in Akasaka, will portray Amamiya, an assistant producer at the television station where the protagonist's older sister, Momo, is employed.
Directed by Mahito Kimura, the film explores the shifting dynamic between junior high student Sui Sanae and her sister's boyfriend, Midori Yukishiro, who unexpectedly becomes her home tutor. The lead roles are filled by Masaki Hashimoto as Midori and Runa Nakajima as Sui, with Rinka Kumada appearing as the older sister, Momo. The project is currently slated to hit Japanese theaters on December 4.
This film marks another adaptation for Amu Meguro, whose work previously inspired the 2018 live-action Honey So Sweet film. While My Sister's Boyfriend continues its serialization in Bessatsu Margaret, the production team is backed by Shochiku, which is overseeing both the planning and distribution of the feature. Given the established track record of the production staff in the shojo-to-live-action space, the film remains a notable entry in this year's winter slate.
