The live-action adaptation of Love is Better the Second Time Around is expanding its ensemble for its upcoming second season. A newly released trailer confirms the addition of three new cast members, all of whom are set to portray ex-boyfriends of the character Takashi. The new additions include Motoki Fukami as Takaaki Hibino, ICEx member Akune Haruse as Rui Taniguchi, and Yūsuke Ōnuki as Sōta Arima.
The promotional video also offers a first listen to the season's opening theme song, "Scenario," performed by the artist Mel, who returns to the franchise after providing the opening track for the first season. The second season picks up two years after the conclusion of the first, following the domestic lives of Akihiro and Takashi as they navigate their rekindled relationship.
Makoto Hasegawa and Robin Furuya are confirmed to reprise their roles as Akihiro Miyata and Takashi Iwanaga, respectively. The production team sees directors Yuka Yasukawa and Nao Nomura returning, joined by new director and screenwriter Shinju Funabiki. The series is scheduled to debut on September 1 across multiple networks, including MBS and TBS, as part of the "Dramaism" programming block.
Based on the manga by Keiko Kinoshita, the series explores the complicated romantic history between a magazine editor and a college professor who were once high school sweethearts. While the first season focused on their professional and personal reunion, this new season promises an original narrative trajectory. The manga itself concluded in 2023 after a successful five-year run in Chara Selection.
