The official website for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Look Back has released a new promotional clip, offering a glimpse into the collaborative dynamic between the film's protagonists, Fujino and Kyōmoto. The footage captures the duo as they work together on their manga, emphasizing the artistic bond that serves as the heart of the narrative.
Helmed by acclaimed director Hirokazu Kore-eda, who also handled the screenplay and editing, the film features Aju Makita as Kyōmoto and Natsuki Deguchi as Fujino. The production boasts a robust creative team, including composer Yūta Bandō and special guest contributions from musician Kenshi Yonezu and vocalist Tōko Miura. Notably, the film incorporates a rotoscoped animation sequence directed by Yōko Kuno and produced by Shinei Animation.
This live-action project follows the successful 2024 anime film adaptation of the same source material, which saw a strong theatrical performance in both Japan and North America. While the anime version garnered significant attention for its faithful visual storytelling, this live-action iteration aims to provide a distinct perspective on Fujimoto’s coming-of-age story. Following its showcase at the Cannes International Film Festival earlier this year, the film is scheduled for a Japanese theatrical debut on September 11, with an international release through GKIDS slated for 2026.
