The popular Korean live-action series Perfect Crown is set to expand its narrative into digital publishing with a web novel adaptation scheduled for release in May. The news comes via Kakao Page, the platform that will host the new digital story.
The original live-action drama, which premiered on April 10, is set in an alternate modern South Korea where a constitutional monarchy persists. It centers on an ambitious heiress who aims to break social barriers through a calculated royal marriage. The series features IU as a chaebol executive and Woo-Seok Byeon as a prince. Early episodes have garnered significant attention, with ratings reaching 9.5% nationwide.
The forthcoming web novel adaptation promises to offer exclusive content, including additional story elements and illustrations not present in the live-action series. This expansion draws parallels to the 2006 drama Goong, which also explored a modern Korean monarchy and a romance between a commoner and royalty.
The Perfect Crown live-action series is currently accessible to international audiences on Disney+ and is also streaming on Hulu in the United States.
