DMM TV has announced that the live-action adaptation of Happy Kanako's Killer Life (Shiawase Kanako no Koroshiya Seikatsu) will return for a second season this September. The series, which follows the dark comedy exploits of an office worker who accidentally lands a job at an agency for contract killers, proved a significant success for the platform, boasting over 130 million views across social media platforms.
Returning to lead the cast are Non as the titular Kanako and Taisuke Fujigaya as her stoic, professional partner, Sakurai. The production team is also seeing familiar faces, with Tsutomu Hanabusa—known for his work on the Tokyo Revengers live-action films—returning to the director's chair. Hanabusa is also co-writing the scripts for the new season alongside Ruriko Matsushima and Yūsuke Aose.
The franchise originates from the popular web manga by Toshiya Wakabayashi, who is also widely recognized for his high-school romance series Tsuredure Children. While the manga continues to see success in Japan with nine compiled volumes, Seven Seas Entertainment currently handles the English-language release for international readers, with the eighth volume slated for a late July release.
