Elden Ring, the hit action RPG from FromSoftware and George R. R. Martin, is heading to the big screen with a live-action Hollywood adaptation slated for a March 3, 2028 premiere. A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment revealed the film's release date and its full cast, confirming that production will commence in Spring 2026 with IMAX filming in mind.
Alex Garland, known for his work on Ex Machina and Annihilation, is penning the script and taking the director's chair. The ensemble cast features Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, Nick Offerman, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird, and Peter Serafinowicz.
Garland's extensive background in genre filmmaking, including writing 28 Days Later and directing Civil War, positions him to adapt the expansive world of The Lands Between. Producers for the film include Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich, George R. R. Martin, and Vince Gerardis.
Released in February 2022, the original Elden Ring game achieved massive commercial success, selling over 12 million units worldwide within its first month. Its subsequent DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, released in June 2024, also saw significant sales, surpassing 5 million copies in its opening weekend. The franchise is expanding further with a Nintendo Switch version, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, scheduled for 2026.
