The whimsical world of Little Mouse's Red Vest (Nezumi-kun no Chokki) is heading back to television. Following the conclusion of its 13-episode first season this past June, the production team has confirmed that a second season will begin airing on NHK Educational starting October 3.
Voice acting veterans Kenjirō Tsuda and Mamiko Noto are set to reprise their roles. In a unique production choice, the pair provides the voices for the entire cast, including the titular mouse Nezumi-kun and his companion Nemi-chan. The series continues under the direction of Nobuyoshi Habara, known for his work on Fafner and Star Blazers 2202, with animation production handled by Creadom8.
This adaptation brings the long-running picture book series—which debuted in 1974 and has since amassed over 5 million copies in print—to a new generation. While the first season established the show's distinct visual style, the upcoming episodes aim to continue the legacy of the late illustrator Noriko Ueno. Fans can look forward to the series maintaining its Saturday morning timeslot on E-Tele.
