Game developer Odd Number, best known for its work on the Link! Like! Love Live! smartphone application, has officially filed for bankruptcy. According to credit research firm Tokyo Shoko Research, the company and two of its affiliates initiated proceedings at the Tokyo District Court on August 5. Financial records indicate that by December 2024, the developer had accumulated liabilities totaling 10.32 billion yen, roughly $64.7 million USD.
The studio’s financial decline was primarily driven by the high operational costs associated with Link! Like! Love Live!. The project, which powered the Hasu no Sora Girls' School Idol Club spinoff, was unique for its real-time narrative structure that mirrored the actual passage of time and school life. Despite the app's innovative approach to storytelling and live concert streaming, it proved unsustainable; by the end of 2023, the project had already incurred losses exceeding 5.6 billion yen. Service for the application concluded on June 30, 2026.
Legal and financial pressure mounted throughout the project's final year, with business partners securing provisional attachments on the company's headquarters between December 2025 and March 2026. The bankruptcy filing marks a difficult end for the studio, though the wider Love Live! franchise remains active. The Hasu no Sora project recently saw the release of its Bloom Garden Party 3D anime film in May, and the franchise is currently moving forward with a dedicated television anime series scheduled to premiere in January 2027.
