The romantic comedy light novel series Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki (Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun) is officially reaching its conclusion. Author Yuuki Yaku announced via social media that the story will wrap up with its 12th volume, which is slated to hit shelves on October 16. This final installment follows the release of the 11th volume earlier this year.
Since its debut under Shogakukan’s Gagaga Bunko imprint in 2016, the series has maintained a consistent presence in the light novel landscape. It notably secured a spot in the top 10 of the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! rankings for five consecutive years between 2017 and 2021. The franchise also expanded into other media, including a manga adaptation by Eight Chida and a spin-off series, Minami Nanami Wants to Shine, illustrated by Bana Yoshida.
Beyond the printed page, the series saw significant success with its anime adaptation. Project No.9 produced two seasons, with the first airing in 2021 and the 2nd Stage following in early 2024. Both seasons are currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll, which also provided an English dub for the production. With the source material now nearing its end, the focus shifts to how the final volume will resolve the character-driven narrative that defined the series' eight-year run.
