The high-stakes psychological drama Liar Game is officially continuing. Shortly after the 26th and final episode of the first season concluded this week, the production team confirmed that a second season is in development. To celebrate the news, character designer Kei Tsuchiya released a commemorative illustration showcasing the series' leads, Nao Kanzaki and Shinichi Akiyama.
Premiering in April 2026, the series maintained a steady six-month broadcast on TV Tokyo. The production, spearheaded by chief director Yūzō Satō at studio Madhouse, has been praised for its faithful adaptation of Shinobu Kaitani’s complex source material. The series relies on a seasoned creative team, including script supervisor Tatsuhiko Urahata and sound director Kisuke Koizumi, to maintain the tension of the tournament's psychological battles.
While the anime has found a home on Crunchyroll, current database snapshots indicate a polarized reception, with the series holding a 62/100 on AniList and a 69/100 on Kitsu as of late September. This adaptation joins a broader franchise history that includes multiple live-action films and television series, as well as Kaitani’s other notable work, One Outs.
With the first season now in the books, the focus shifts to how the production will handle the remaining narrative arcs from the 19-volume manga. Given the intricate nature of the tournament's rules, which returning staff members are you most interested to see tackle the next phase of the game?
