Kininatteru Hito ga Otoko ja Nakatta, the television anime adaptation of Sumiko Arai's manga, revealed its main cast, key staff, opening theme, and a teaser promotional video during the Crunchyroll Showcase panel at Anime Expo 2026. The series is slated for a January 2027 premiere.
Mariya Ise, known for her role in Aku no Hana, will voice Mitsuki Koga, while Akari Kitou, who starred in Ao no Hako, takes on the role of Aya Oosawa. Directing the anime is Masashi Ishihama (Horimiya), with series composition by Rino Yamazaki (Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku). Kanna Hirayama (Oshi no Ko) is handling character design, and the animation will be produced by CloverWorks.
The opening theme, titled "Breed," will be performed by the American rock band Nirvana. The original manga, also known as Kinioto, began as a webcomic on X in April 2022 and has since achieved significant popularity, with over 1.4 million copies in print. Yen Press publishes the English version of the manga.
Kininatteru Hito ga Otoko ja Nakatta has garnered critical acclaim, ranking first in the Web Manga category at the 2023 Tsugi no Kuru Manga Awards and second in the female readers division of the 2024 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings. The newly released teaser promo offers a first look at the anime's visual style and characters.
