The 1997 super robot classic King of Braves GaoGaiGar has arrived on Crunchyroll, complete with both English dub and subtitle options. This 49-episode series from animation powerhouse Sunrise, known for seminal works like Code Geass and Cowboy Bebop, follows the Gutsy Geoid Guard (3G) and their ultimate weapon, GaoGaiGar, as they defend Tokyo from the alien Zonders.
Piloted by Guy Shishio, a former astronaut saved by the mysterious robot lion Galeon, GaoGaiGar embodies the spirit of the Yuusha (Brave) series. The show blends classic giant robot action with themes of heroism, family, and artificial intelligence, all set against a backdrop of urban destruction and alien invasion. Its blend of over-the-top action and earnest character moments earned it a solid 7.89 rating on MyAnimeList.
GaoGaiGar's legacy extends beyond its initial run. It spawned the OVA sequel GaoGaiGar Final, which directly continues the story and is also highly regarded by fans. A later TV series, King of Braves GaoGaiGar Final Grand Glorious Gathering, retold key elements of Final with additional content.
With the full series now available to stream, King of Braves GaoGaiGar offers a chance to experience a foundational entry in the super robot genre. Its themes and high-octane battles paved the way for future series.
