The latest expansion of the Kidou Keisatsu Patlabor: EZY project has introduced two new cast members. Kaori Nazuka, known for her work in Akame ga Kill!, will voice Kaoru Mitarai, while Taku Yashiro, who recently appeared in Sakamoto Days, takes on the role of Takuya Niino. Along with these casting updates, the production team released a teaser trailer and key visual for the project's third installment, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 5, 2027.
Helmed by director Yutaka Izubuchi at J.C.Staff, the series is designed as an eight-episode revival of the classic mecha franchise. The production reunites core creative DNA from the original HEADGEAR group, with Kazunori Itou returning to handle series composition and script duties. This continuity is vital for a series that helped define the 'real robot' and workplace-drama subgenres in the late 1980s.
The project is following an ambitious staggered release schedule. Following the theatrical debut of the first installment on May 15, the second installment is slated for August 14. By utilizing a theatrical rollout for these episodes, the production team is bridging the gap for a franchise that has not seen a major long-form entry since 2002's WXIII: Patlabor the Movie and the 2016 Patlabor: Reboot short.
