The original television anime Kaze wo Tsugumono (Inherit the Winds) has bolstered its voice cast ahead of its January 2027 debut. The series, which focuses on the tumultuous late Edo period, will air as part of the Agaru Anime programming block on CBC and TBS' 28-station network.
Joining the production are Ryouhei Kimura as Shinpachi Nagakura, Ayumu Murase as Heisuke Toudou, and Simba Tsuchiya as Sanosuke Harada. Rounding out the latest casting update are Takeo Ootsuka as Keisuke Yamanami and Yasuyuki Kase as Kamo Serizawa. These performers join a project rooted in the Shinsengumi legacy, adapted from playwright Yutaka Narui’s stage works.
The series is directed by Tomohiro Kawamura at studios Drive and Live2D Creative Studio, with Aniplex serving as a primary producer. The narrative follows an amnesiac protagonist who is taken in by Souji Okita and integrated into the Mibu Roushigumi, the group that would eventually become the legendary Shinsengumi. As the protagonist, Jinsuke Tachikawa, navigates the shifting political landscape of 1863 Kyoto, he must eventually confront the truth of his own forgotten past.
With the staff including character designer Fumi Ebina and composer Shigeru Kishida, the production aims to capture the intensity of the era's historical upheaval. The project represents a significant collaboration between theatrical storytelling and modern animation techniques.
