The production team for the upcoming television anime Kakunaru Ue wa (Now That We Draw) has unveiled its first promotional video and a new character visual, confirming a January 2027 broadcast window. The series, which adapts the romantic comedy manga by Kyuu Takahata and Yuuji Kaba, is currently in development at studio ROLL2.
Directing the project is Shunsuke Ishikawa, known for his work on Blue Lock: Episode Nagi, with Deko Akao overseeing series composition and scripts. Character design is being handled by Hiromi Nakagawa. The latest production update also introduced several key staff members, including sound director Fumiyuki Gou, composer Yoshiaki Miura, and art director Arei Saiga, who brings experience from Kabushikigaisha Magi-Lumière.
Since its serialization began in Young Animal in February 2023, the manga has grown steadily, with Hakusensha releasing its eighth volume this past September. English-language readers have been following the series through Seven Seas Entertainment, which licensed the title in 2024 and continues to roll out localized volumes.
With the core staff now largely in place, the focus shifts to the animation quality of the newly revealed trailer. Given the studio's previous work, it remains to be seen how they will adapt the manga's specific comedic timing, though the involvement of industry veterans in the sound and art departments suggests a polished production.
