Kakao Games is expanding the universe of the web novel Chronicles of the Demon-Slaying Cultivator with a new MMORPG titled The World of Dokkaebi. Developed by Supercat, the game serves as a prequel, taking place roughly 300 years before the events of the source material while introducing fresh narratives and characters rooted in Korean folklore and Eastern fantasy.

Technically, the title distinguishes itself by merging 2D pixel-art character models with immersive 3D environments. Gameplay mechanics focus on a class-free system, granting players the freedom to tailor their combat style through unique skill combinations. In addition to solo progression, the game emphasizes social interaction through guild-based cooperative missions.

To drive the promotional campaign, Kakao Games has enlisted actor Ji-hoon Park, known for his lead role in the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Kitchen Soldier, as the project's official face. While pre-registration is currently underway, the company plans to host an online showcase in September to demonstrate further features before the official release in Korea this October.

As of now, there is no information regarding a global release. Furthermore, the original web novel and its webtoon counterpart remain unavailable in English, leaving this game as the primary point of entry for the franchise in international markets should a localization be announced in the future.
