In a move to optimize its intellectual property portfolio, Kakao Entertainment has announced the consolidation of three key subsidiaries: Samyang C&C, Intime, and Pilyeon Management. The merger, which was approved by the respective boards on August 12, aims to unify the company's production resources and streamline its content development pipeline.
Following the completion of the merger, which is slated for the end of this year, the combined entity will operate under the Samyang C&C brand. The newly integrated firm will be headed by CEO Sung-taek Cha. By pooling the expertise of these three subsidiaries, Kakao Entertainment intends to sharpen its focus on the adaptation of web novels into webtoons, a core pillar of its current business strategy.
All three companies have historically specialized in producing content across diverse genres, including romance fantasy and martial arts. Beyond digital publishing, the subsidiaries have been active in creator scouting, merchandise development, and facilitating adaptations for animation and live-action media. This restructuring serves as a strategic effort to build robust, multi-genre franchises and expand the company's reach in the global IP market.
