Kakao Entertainment has announced an open call for new drama-genre webtoons, with submissions running from May 27 to June 10. This initiative aims to bolster the company's content pipeline, drawing from a broad definition of 'drama' that encompasses slice-of-life, black comedy, thriller, and youth-oriented stories.

The recruitment drive features two distinct submission tracks. The 'webtoon submission' track requires a complete synopsis, a finished first episode, and storyboards for episodes two and three. Meanwhile, the 'story submission' track is designed for writers, asking for a project proposal, synopsis, and storyboards for the initial three episodes. Creators are permitted to apply for both tracks.

Works selected through this process will gain serialization opportunities on Kakao's prominent platforms, Kakao Webtoon and Kakao Page. This move follows a successful history of adapting Kakao's drama webtoons into popular live-action series, with titles such as Itaewon Class, The Uncanny Counter, and A Bona Fide Killer previously receiving such adaptations.
