K2 Pictures revealed plans for two major anime and film adaptations during the Cannes International Film Festival. The company's "K2P Film Fund I" will finance a theatrical anime version of Hiroya Oku's GIGANT manga, marking K2 Pictures' inaugural animated feature project.
The GIGANT manga, which concluded in September 2021, follows a high schooler who becomes entangled with a giant-sized adult film star amidst supernatural events. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the series in English.
Additionally, K2 Pictures is backing a musical film adaptation of Osamu Tezuka's experimental manga, The Book of Human Insects. Ken Ninomiya is set to direct this project, which was previously pitched at the European Film Market in Berlin. Vertical publishes the manga in English, describing its noir-tinged narrative about a young actress's rise and descent.
