The stage play adaptations of Production I.G's Joker Game spy anime are set to continue with a fourth production, Joker Game IV, slated for February 2025. This new installment marks the tenth anniversary of the stage play series, which first debuted in May 2017. Performances will be held in both Tokyo and the Kansai region.
Daisuke Nishida is returning to direct and pen the script for Joker Game IV. A number of cast members from previous productions are also set to reprise their roles, including Yūsuke Yata as Miyoshi, Reo Honda as Kaminaga, Shinichi Hashimoto as Tazaki, Kouhei Shiota as Odagiri, Jun Noguchi as Jitsui, and Masashi Taniguchi as Lieutenant Colonel Yūki.
The Joker Game anime, which aired in April 2016, is based on Kōji Yanagi's 2008 novel of the same name. The story is set in 1937, focusing on Lieutenant Colonel Yūki's formation of the "D Agency," an intelligence unit operating with unconventional tenets. The anime was streamed by Crunchyroll, with Funimation providing an English dub.
The franchise has also seen a manga adaptation and a live-action film. Yanagi's novel series has sold over 1 million copies and includes several sequel novels, highlighting the enduring popularity of the espionage thriller.
