Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia, the upcoming anime adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga, is set to premiere on July 4 with a special one-hour broadcast featuring its first two episodes. The announcement accompanied the release of the anime's second promotional video, which previews the opening theme song "Stella" by SEKAI NO OWARI.
The series will debut in the "IMAnimation W" programming block on TV Asahi and its affiliates, as well as on BS Asahi. The newly revealed cast includes Kenji Nojima as Jochi, Ami Koshimizu as Töregene, Hiro Shimono as Ögedei, and Daisuke Namikawa as Chagatai. The production also announced additional staff, including Takuya Fujikura as Technical Director and Yuri Kabasawa as Art Director.
Directed by Abel Góngora with Naoko Yamada serving as chief director at Science SARU, the anime features character designs by Kenichi Yoshida. The story follows Fatima, a Persian woman with advanced medical knowledge who travels to the 13th-century Mongol Empire to utilize her skills, finding herself under the patronage of Töregene, the sixth wife of the second Great Khan, Ögedei.
The source manga, released in English by Yen Press, has garnered critical acclaim, topping the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings for female readers and receiving multiple Manga Taisho Award nominations. It recently won the grand prize in the Comic division of the 55th Japan Cartoonists Association Awards.
