An alternate promotional video for the upcoming Iron Wok Jan! anime has been released, offering a new look at the culinary competition series. This revised trailer includes commentary from the character Nichido Otani, a food critic known for his discerning palate and difficult personality. The video also provides the first listen to the anime's ending theme song, "Naita Akuma" (The Devil Who Cried), performed by EMUNIMINI.
Joining the cast is Tomokazu Sugita, who will voice Ryūji Bitō, a traveling chef specializing in Chinese cuisine and known by the moniker "XO Sauce Ryū." He enters cooking duels against chefs from various Chinese restaurants. The anime's main cast previously announced includes Kikunosuke Toya as Jan Akiyama and Ikumi Hasegawa as Kiriko Gobanchō, with Kenjirō Tsuda serving as narrator.
The production team also confirmed that Iron Wok Jan! will begin streaming in Japan on July 5 at 6:00 p.m. JST across multiple platforms, including Anime Times, ABEMA, U-NEXT, and Anime Hōdai. The series will also premiere on TV Tokyo and its affiliates on the same date, airing Sundays at 5:30 p.m. JST.
The original manga by Shinji Saijyo, which ran from 1995 to 2000, centers on Jan Akiyama, a gifted young chef at a high-end restaurant. He frequently clashes with Kiriko Gobanchō, the owner's granddaughter and a skilled chef herself, over their contrasting philosophies on cooking: Jan prioritizes competition, while Kiriko focuses on the diner's experience. The franchise has a significant history, with multiple manga sequels and spin-offs published over the years, accumulating over 10 million copies in circulation.
