The production team for the original television project Inherit the Winds (Kaze wo Tsugumono) has revealed that voice actor Takeo Ōtsuka will join the cast as Yamanaka Keisuke. He joins a high-profile lineup that includes Daisuke Sakuma as the amnesiac protagonist Tachikawa Jinsuke, alongside Yūki Kaji as the legendary Shinsengumi figure Okita Sōji.
Set in June 1863, the story centers on a man discovered with no recollection of his past who is taken into the Mibu Roushigumi headquarters. Under the guidance of Okita, he is christened Jinsuke Tachikawa and thrust into the volatile political landscape of Kyoto. As the Mibu Roushigumi evolves into the infamous Shinsengumi, Jinsuke must navigate the violent transition of the late Edo period, a journey that promises to change his world once his memories finally resurface.
The series is spearheaded by playwright Yutaka Narui, founder of the theatrical troupe Caramel Box, who is overseeing the original story and scripts. While the title shares a name with one of Narui's previous stage productions, the anime is distinguished as an original work. Direction is being handled by Tomohiro Kawamura at Drive and Live2D Creative Studio, with character designs by Fumi Ebina and a score by Shigeru Kishida.
Fans can look forward to a theatrical preview screening in 2026 before the official television broadcast kicks off in January 2027. The show will anchor the "Agaru Anime" programming block across TBS, CBC, and 26 affiliate networks. Additionally, a four-panel manga adaptation illustrated by Matsuri Muramatsu is scheduled to begin serialization on Star Seas Company's Twi4 platform later in 2026.
