The production team for the original television project Inherit the Winds (Kaze wo Tsugumono) has announced that voice actor Ryōhei Kimura will join the cast as Nagakura Shinpachi. He joins an already impressive ensemble including Daisuke Sakuma as the amnesiac protagonist Tachikawa Jinsuke, alongside Yūki Kaji, Aoi Yūki, Kōki Uchiyama, and Yūichi Nakamura.

Set against the backdrop of Kyoto during the turbulent Bakumatsu era, the story follows Jinsuke, a soldier who loses his memory and is taken in by the legendary Shinsengumi, specifically Okita Sōji. The project is spearheaded by writer Yutaka Narui, founder of the theatrical troupe Caramel Box, who brings his extensive experience with Shinsengumi-themed stage productions to the screen. While Narui previously penned a stage play with a similar title, this anime is being developed as a distinct original work.

Production is currently underway with Tomohiro Kawamura directing at Live2D Creative Studio and Drive Inc. The creative team also features character designs by Fumi Ebina and a musical score by Shigeru Kishida. Prior to its January 2027 broadcast on the "Agaru Anime" programming block across TBS and its affiliates, the studio plans to hold early theatrical preview screenings in 2026.

In addition to the anime, the franchise is expanding to social media with a four-panel manga adaptation illustrated by Matsuri Muramatsu. The manga is slated to begin serialization on Star Seas Company’s Twi4 platform sometime in 2026, further building anticipation for the series' upcoming debut.
