The latest promotional video for the upcoming original anime Inherit the Winds (Kaze wo Tsugumono) debuted during Saturday's Aniplex One Focus livestream. The trailer shifts focus to five supporting figures, spotlighting voice actors Takeo Ōtsuka, Simba Tsuchiya, Ryōhei Kimura, Ayumu Murase, and Yasuyuki Kase as Sannan Keisuke, Harada Sanosuke, Nagakura Shinpachi, Tōdō Heisuke, and Serizawa Kamo, respectively.
Set against the backdrop of the Bakumatsu era in Kyoto, the series follows an amnesiac soldier renamed Tachikawa Jinsuke by the legendary Shinsengumi member Okita Sōji. The production team includes director Tomohiro Kawamura, with animation handled by Live2D Creative Studio and Drive Inc. The project is rooted in the work of Yutaka Narui, a playwright known for his extensive history with Shinsengumi-themed stage productions.
Before its wide television debut in January 2027 across TBS and its affiliates, the series will hold a limited two-week theatrical run in Japan starting November 13, focusing on the protagonist's introduction. While the title shares a name with one of Narui's previous stage plays, the project is officially billed as an original television anime. A four-panel manga adaptation by Matsuri Muramatsu is also slated to begin serialization on the Twi4 platform later this year.
