The original television anime Inherit the Winds (Kaze wo Tsugumono) has confirmed a two-week advanced theatrical screening starting November 13. This limited run will focus on the journey of the protagonist, Tachikawa Jinsuke, ahead of the series' wider broadcast premiere in January 2027. The show is slated to air on the "Agaru Anime" programming block across TBS, CBC, and 26 affiliated networks.
Alongside the screening announcement, the production team revealed that the opening theme song, "Kaze wo Tsugumono," will be performed by Quruli, while hitsujibungaku will provide the ending theme, "Namida no Kawa." The latter track will also serve as the theme for the theatrical event. Additionally, the cast list has expanded with the inclusion of Takaya Kamikawa, who will voice the character Umeda Shinbei.
Set in Kyoto during the Bakumatsu era, the story follows an amnesiac soldier who is taken in by the Shinsengumi and renamed Tachikawa Jinsuke by Okita SΕji. The project is an original work credited to Yutaka Narui and Aniplex, with scripts written by Narui. While the title shares a name with a stage play from Naruiβs theatrical troupe, Caramel Box, the production is officially categorized as an original anime project.
Beyond the screen, the franchise is expanding into print with a four-panel manga adaptation illustrated by Matsuri Muramatsu. The manga is scheduled to launch on the Star Seas Company's Twi4 social media account later in 2026. With the series debut still months away, the upcoming theatrical screenings offer the first opportunity to see how the collaboration between studios Live2D Creative Studio and Drive Inc. handles this historical setting.
