The original anime project Inherit the Winds (Kaze wo Tsugumono) is heading to Japanese cinemas for an exclusive two-week engagement starting November 13. This theatrical event will focus on the journey of the protagonist, Tachikawa Jinsuke, offering audiences an early look at the series before its wider television debut. The production team also unveiled a new key visual to mark the announcement.
Following the theatrical run, the series is slated for a January 2027 premiere across the Agaru Anime programming block on TBS, CBC, and 26 affiliated stations. Set during the turbulent Bakumatsu era in Kyoto, the story follows an amnesiac soldier who is taken in by Shinsengumi member Okita Sōji and rechristened as Tachikawa Jinsuke. The project features a notable voice cast, including Daisuke Sakuma as the lead, alongside Yūki Kaji, Aoi Yūki, and Kōki Uchiyama.
The anime is being directed by Tomohiro Kawamura, with production handled by Live2D Creative Studio and Drive Inc. The original story is credited to Yutaka Narui, a playwright known for his extensive work with the theatrical troupe Caramel Box, and Aniplex. While Narui previously penned a stage play with a similar title, the production is officially classified as an original television work. Ahead of the broadcast, a four-panel manga adaptation illustrated by Matsuri Muramatsu is also set to begin serialization on the Twi4 platform later this year.
