City Connection is bringing the niche mahjong spin-off Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Jong back to modern hardware. The upcoming Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Jong Remaster is slated for a 2027 release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. A promotional trailer accompanying the announcement confirms that the title will retain its classic mahjong gameplay while updating the experience for current-gen systems.

This project revives a title that first appeared in Japanese arcades in July 2009 before receiving a PlayStation Portable port later that same year. It serves as a lighthearted departure from the main Higurashi: When They Cry visual novel series, which began in 2002 and centers on the unsettling mystery surrounding a rural village's annual festival.

The franchise has maintained a consistent presence in the industry for over two decades, spanning numerous anime adaptations and spin-offs. Beyond the core visual novels and the 2020-2021 GOU and SOTSU anime arcs, the series is currently preparing for a new television anime project. With Studio DEEN confirmed to return for that production, the franchise continues to lean on its established history while expanding its reach into new gaming formats.
