Manga artist Hidari Yokoyama has returned to the Shonen Jump+ platform with the launch of their latest series, Ayaru's Brush with Romance (known in Japan as Ippitsu Ayaru). The story follows Ayaru Kagami, a second-year high school student whose life changes when he develops a crush on a girl in his school's Shodo (calligraphy) club. In an attempt to bridge the gap between them, he joins the club, setting the stage for a romantic comedy set against the backdrop of traditional ink art.
International readers can follow the series alongside the Japanese release, as Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service is providing a simultaneous English translation. This marks another quick turnaround for Yokoyama, who has been a consistent presence on the Shonen Jump+ platform over the past few years.
Yokoyama’s previous works, including Moebana and Tsuruko Returns the Favor, also saw digital releases through MANGA Plus. While Moebana concluded in 2023 and Tsuruko Returns the Favor wrapped up its run in May 2025, the creator's rapid transition to this new project highlights their ongoing collaboration with Shueisha's digital-first manga ecosystem.
