Readers of Heisei Haizan-hei ☆ Sumire-chan will have to wait a few months for the next chapter, as author Satomi U has announced a temporary hiatus. The break, which began in mid-July, is set to last until mid-October to accommodate the creator's maternity leave.
Serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine since January 2024, the series follows Sumire, a 31-year-old former idol attempting to navigate the entertainment industry through a calculated comeback. The manga has gained significant critical traction, recently earning a nomination for the Best General Manga category at the 50th annual Kodansha Manga Awards this past May.
Satomi U is well-regarded for her previous work, most notably the culinary-focused Beauty and the Feast (Yakumo-san wa Eduke ga Shitai), which concluded in 2021 after an 11-volume run. With ten volumes of her current series already on shelves, the industry will be watching for the return of the story this autumn.
