Yoshiki Takaya, the creator of the long-running science fiction series Bio-Booster Armor Guyver, has shared a somber update regarding his health and future in the manga industry. In a message included with the new Toy Robot Blu-ray release of the 1994 live-action film Guyver 2: Dark Hero, Takaya disclosed that he suffered a cerebral infarction that left him with partial paralysis on his right side.
Beyond the physical impact, Takaya noted that the incident caused brain damage affecting his concentration, judgment, and short-term memory. Addressing his readership directly, he expressed regret while stating that he does not believe he will be able to resume his work as a manga artist. The series has remained on hiatus since 2016, leaving the status of the narrative indefinitely unresolved.
First launched in 1985, Bio-Booster Armor Guyver became a staple of the genre, moving through several publications including Shonen Captain, Monthly Ace Next, and Young Ace. The franchise expanded significantly beyond its print origins, inspiring a 1989 OVA series, a 2005 television anime adaptation, and two live-action films. While the manga's future remains uncertain, the series maintains a dedicated legacy among long-time fans of 80s and 90s sci-fi action.
