Sony Pictures revealed at CinemaCon that Godzilla Minus One director Takashi Yamazaki's first U.S. production, titled Grandgear, is set to premiere on February 18, 2028. The studio shared a sizzle reel showcasing the title treatment, which reportedly featured 'kaiju robots fighting in a city.'

Yamazaki is penning the original screenplay, directing, and producing the film. J.J. Abrams and Glen Zipper of Bad Robot are also attached as producers. This project marks Yamazaki's formal entry into the American film market, following the significant critical and commercial success of Godzilla Minus One.

Godzilla Minus One has achieved considerable international acclaim, earning over $116 million worldwide and becoming the third highest-grossing foreign-language film in the United States as of 2024. The film also secured an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects at the 96th Oscars, a first for a Japanese film in that category.

In related news, Sony also announced an R-rated animated film adaptation of the game Bloodborne and confirmed the completion of filming for a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie.
